Fox News has apologised for cropping Donald Trump out of a picture of Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell.<\/p>\n
Epstein, a financier with\u00a0influential connections\u00a0including Trump, Bill Clinton and Prince Andrew,\u00a0killed himself in prison\u00a0in New York last year, while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.<\/p>\n
Maxwell, a British socialite, was\u00a0arrested last week in New Hampshire\u00a0for her alleged role in recruiting, grooming and sexually abusing underaged girls with Epstein. Detained in Brooklyn, she is due in court in New York this week.<\/p>\n
The full picture\u00a0used by Fox News\u00a0on Sunday \u2013 and widely elsewhere \u2013 shows Maxwell and Epstein with Donald Trump and his wife Melania (then his girlfriend) at Trump\u2019s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida in February 2000.<\/p>\n
In a statement about its\u00a0interview with an attorney\u00a0representing victims of Epstein, Fox News said: \u201cOn Sunday, 5 July, a report on Ghislaine Maxwell during Fox News Channel\u2019s America\u2019s News HQ mistakenly eliminated President Donald Trump from a photo alongside then Melania Knauss, Jeffrey Epstein and Maxwell.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe regret the error.\u201d<\/p>\n
It is not clear if Trump saw the segment in question.<\/p>\n
On Sunday,\u00a0speaking to CBS, former national security adviser John Bolton criticised the president for the amount of time he spends \u201cin the little dining room off the Oval Office with the cable news networks in one form or another on\u201d, versus \u201cthe amount of time he spends actually in the Oval Office\u201d.<\/p>\n
The president spent Sunday at his golf club in Virginia. But he did return to the White House to tweet\u00a0complaints\u00a0about\u00a0Fox News\u2019s weekend coverage.<\/p>\n
Fox News\u2019s decision to crop Trump out of an Epstein picture \u2013 and subsequent expression of regret \u2013 echoed a decision by Trump\u2019s son Eric Trump to tweet a picture of Maxwell attending Chelsea Clinton\u2019s wedding.<\/p>\n
\u201cBirds of a feather,\u201d Eric Trump\u00a0wrote, accompanying a picture of Maxwell watching former president Clinton walk his daughter up the aisle.<\/p>\n
After many observers pointed to numerous pictures and videos of Eric Trump\u2019s father with Epstein, the tweet was deleted.<\/p>\n
Observers also shared a New Yorker profile of\u00a0Donald Trump\u00a0from 1997, which described Maxwell \u201cbumming a ride\u201d to Mar-a-Lago on Trump\u2019s private plane, on which Eric Trump, then 13, was also a passenger.<\/p>\n
